FUJIFILM X100F Cameras FUJIFILM X Series & GFX - Globa

The fully electronic view is rendered via the large 2.36 million-dot OLED display, which gives you a clear view of exposure, white balance, composition and a host of other shooting info, while the bright optical viewfinder provides a more traditional alternative. If you’re focusing on objects near to the camera in optical mode the Real Time Parallax Correction function will kick in, and shift the frame guides to enable assured framing.Hi Nick – yes, I think that’s a great combination. I use the 23, X100 with WCL and the 56 in my wedding work.

Whilst I understand some people would like to see a tilt screen in this camera, I think that it is worth remembering that the camera is all about minimalism and functionality.  I’m personally not interested in touch screens and tilt screens – I just want a tactile, ranger-finder style camera that is sleek, easy to operate and creates great images.Well, I guess those of you that already shoot with an X-Pro2 will no doubt have been expecting an “X-Pro2 in a smaller box”.  And to a certain extent, that’s true.  Of course, the X100F is a fixed lens camera and is very different to the X-Pro2.

Lens & Dynamic Range

The optical finder also claims a setting for a changeable-magnification electronic focus preview in the bottom right corner. This small EVF window can display 100% field of view as well as 2.5x and 6x magnifications. You can also check exposure and white balance in this EVF window, making it the ultimate viewfinder that provides all the benefits of the EVF while shooting photos through the OVF, which of course offers a live real-time optical view. The FUJIFILM X100F signifies the achievement of new heights in Fujifilm's endless pursuit of perfection in photography. Perfection means creating a system that allows photographers to control, frame, and create with style, ease, and purpose I have always been more than happy with the lens in the X100T and the cameras before it.  In fact, I would go as far as saying I love the way this lens renders and I’m kind of glad, deep down, that it hasn’t changed.  This is a camera that is going to be used by Street Photographers and storytelling photographers.  The camera is perfectly sharp at F2 for me and I’ve never once found myself worrying about this.  The camera is not really designed for close-ups of flowers and so whilst Fuji could have updated the lens, my personal opinion is that they didn’t need to.Unfortunately, we haven’t had any real sunny days in the UK since the 17th century so I’ve had to use a couple of shots I took whilst on holiday in Spain last year to illustrate the leaf shutter and flash.

Fujifilm X100F - A Real World Review Alik Griffi

It’s a lot of money for a camera, but it’s a bargain for a full-frame Leica. You don’t get the interchangeable lenses of the M-series, but the Q is a beauty. The 24MP sensor delivers really good resolution, though is no better than APS-C rivals in other respects, but you get an excellent f/1.7 lens.I have an xt2 with the fujicron trilogy (23, 35 , 50). I´m thinking on getting an x100f and get rid of the 23 f2, or get an xpro 2 to use with these lenses and keep the xt2 for video and eventually other lenses. What do you think?Click any for the same camera-original © files as above to explore on your computer; mobile devices rarely show the full resolution files properly:Also, I love my macro photography, but you mentioned that this camera is not for anyone interested in doing flower macro photography. Why is that? Are the images not sharp enough? If you want to read more reviews of the X100F today, then please take a look at some of my friends who have also had the camera during the testing period:

Somehow the X-Pro2 experience has just not been the same as the X100 – for me it’s not all about IQ. After getting excited about the X-E3 and the X-H1, I’m back to the X100F. Last night I dug through my stuff and found my original X100. Charged the battery and I’ve been having fun taking pictures of my bookshelves in this -10F weather here in Chicago. Intuitive Analog Operation The FUJIFILM X100F inherits X Series' traditional design philosophy. Practical and beautiful, the FUJIFILM X100F allows you to check exposure settings with a quick glance at its top plate even when the camera is turned off. The layout of the original X Series model.. The EF-20 is a small flash that takes 2-AA cells with a guide number of 65'/20m. If I got a flash for my X100F, I'd get this EF-20 since I prefer common AA cells to the puny AAAs.The Leica Q scores a significant win here, even though it shares the same 24MP resolution as the Fujifilm X100F and Canon PowerShot G1 X III. We put it down to the larger sensor (the Leica is full frame), the lack of a low-pass filter on the sensor and the expensive Leica 28mm F1.7 Summilux lens on the front. Amongst the APS-C cameras, though, the X100F is very slightly the best.

Fujifilm X100F Review ~ Fourth Iteration of the Classic Fuji Camer

  1. Contrary to the WCL which I’ve mentioned throughout this Fujifilm X100F Review, the TCL gives a narrower focal length (around 33mm), which gives an added depth of field to the image.
  2. There are two very similar B&W options. The B&W option was in earlier X100 cameras, and the ACROS option is a newer one in light of Fuji's ACROS brand B&W film.
  3. First introduced in January 2017 , Fujifilm X100F is a 24.0MP Large Sensor Compact camera with a APS-C (23.6 x 15.6 mm ) sized CMOS X-TRANS III sensor. Fujifilm replaced the older Fujifilm X100T with this model and later X100F was replaced with Fujifilm X100V. 4. For those that own an X-Pro2 or an X-T2, you’ll be well aware of the autofocus capabilities of the X-Trans III sensor.
  5. There is quite a difference between the two sensors, but, saying that – just because there is a new sensor, doesn’t make the old one bad all of a sudden. At the end of the day, it would come down to budget I guess. I’ve shot plenty on the XT10 and I still take it out now.

As you can see from the shot of the back of the camera above the button layout has been completely redesigned and I think it’s a much easier camera to operate because of this. The X100 (2000-1013), X100S (2013-2014) X100T (2014-2017) and this newest X100F (2017-) are all very similar, with the same lens, same great flash performance and great image quality, especially optimized for people photos in any light. The Fujifilm X100F is still incredibly difficult to get, but Adorama has a few black ones in right now. I am actually selling my Leica Q and am seriously Cameras like the X100F are great mini quasi-rangefinder replacement cameras and I have never regretted purchasing one, but I want a big sensor

This is another area in which the X100F excels: it's all metal. The only things that aren't metal are things like the battery door and buttons; the top and bottom covers and all the knobs and levers are all metal, and most of the markings are engraved — just like a LEICA.Fujifilm X100F doesn't have any environmental sealings on its body so you got to be extra careful to protect it against water and dust. If you shoot under these conditions very often, consider checking Top Compact Cameras with Weather Sealing page. While there is a new thumb nubbin, new Fn 2 button and a new front control dial, gone is the left-side Fn (Wi-FI) button, and the dedicated DRIVE MODE button has now moved to take up the top button of the four-way rear controller. Framelines are very cleverly generated electronically to correct parallax and magnification, displayed using the EVF's LCD, and then optically composited to show as the framelines of the optical finder. Brilliant! The X100F is also a pretty fair size for an APS-C fixed-lens camera, but that goes well with its retro styling and analog controls. It may look big from the front, but both the body and the lens are slim, so it would be easy to slip this camera into a coat pocket.

Tracking Sensitivity allows you to specify whether the camera should retain its focus and wait for the subject to reappear from behind an obstacle, or switch focus to a completely different subject. Speed Tracking Sensitivity defines the camera’s tracking characteristics based on changes to the subject’s speed. The built-in flash system is the best in the business. Fill flash is almost always flawlessly exposed in any light from direct sunlight to pitch black nights, and at any distance even inches from the lens. The lens also remains the same as on previous models, with the X100F sporting a compact 23mm (equivalent to 35mm) f/2 prime lens. If that feels a little restrictive, then to ease the pain there are a couple of dedicated lens converters: the TCL-X100 II and WCL-X100 II, equivalent to 50mm and 28mm, while the ‘II’ designation signifies that the X100F will automatically notice whether either adapter is attached and will correct for any aberrations.Hi Mike – I’m sure you will love the X100F when it arrives. Other New Physical Features of the Fuji X100F

If you do, then Fujifilm UK are offering six experience days (half day sessions) with me, and the X100F in the next couple of weeks. The special sensor really is sharper than the usual sensors used by Nikon, Canon and LEICA. It uses a different arrangement of colors that yields sharper pixel-to-pixel images.Fujifilm has squeezed as much of the X-Pro2’s performance into the aesthetically beautiful little box of the X100F.  It is a camera with character, its a camera with quality and possibly above all, its a photographers’ camera.  This is a camera I want to use and look forward to picking up.Fujifilm X100F Review: with WCL 1/160th at f/2, ISO12,8000 (Out of Camera Fuji X100F Sample Image Acros + R)

None of the X100 series has ever had a YRGB histogram. No worries, its huge dynamic range eliminates the need for one. This means I can meter against pretty bright sections of the scene and use the 3-stop ND filter to block out some of the overpowering light.I always found the scale on the 100T reliable and so far, the F is as well. The S was a little erratic I agre. Now it could be this is just for the prototypes, so don’t blame me if it’s not in the production cameras. The X100F is much more of a niche product compared to its high-end sibling. Being smaller and lighter than the X-T2, it primarily suits street, documentary and event/wedding work where speed and discretion are paramount. This is emphasised by Fujifilm’s choice to give it a 35mm equivalent lens – an ideal field of view for these genres. And where it lacks in terms of high-end video capabilities and burst speeds, it more than makes up for in extra features such as the hybrid viewfinder, built-in ND filter, and quick flash sync speeds. My only real complaint concerns Fujifilm’s continued resistance to give it a tilting touchscreen, though I fully admit this is a personal gripe and not everyone shares this view.

Fujifilm X100F review - Cameralab

Back in 2011, the original X100 was a classic.  Now, in 2017, the X100F builds on that legacy….I find this very useful when shooting fully manual, as I need to ensure all my exposure attributes are good.Either plug into USB, or pull the battery and use the included charger. In both cases a green LED lights while charging, and turns off when done.Popping on the Wide Conversion Lens brings the focal length down to 19mm which gives a wider view of the scene without any perceived image degradation.  I really recommend anybody who is going to shoot at weddings with the Fuji X100F invests in the Wide Conversion Lens.

The above image is F2 at ISO800 so any questions about the sharpness of the lens at anything other than extremely close up are muted I think. The Fuji X100F is the fourth generation of the Fujifilm X100 line of APS-C format compact cameras. It has traditional exposure controls and a hybrid viewfinder that lets you choose between an electronic or optical system. Like the previous X100 models the X100F has a Fujinon 23mm f/2.0 lens which.. This Fujifilm X100F Review, as with all my reviews, will focus very little on the technicalities of the camera, rather, I’m going to talk about how I’ve used it, why I’ve used it, what I liked, what I didn’t and how I see the camera in comparison to the previous incarnations of the X100.Lyn, Kevin’s answer covers it, but I just wanted to give you my own workflow. I shoot raw+jpg fine 90% of the time. I also use Acros 95% of the time. This gives me a mono viewfinder view when set to EVF and a mono “picture in picture” when set to OVF. I find that stands out really well. If I am shooting raw+jpg fine and I actually want a colour image I use the built in raw converter to flip to velvia or chrome simulations. I only shoot jpg only when I want to use the digital zoom; I have mapped one of the 4-way buttons (the one on the right) to give me quick access to the file quality menu. I can quickly flip to jpg fine and back again.

Fujifilm X100F Review - Still Great in 2020

Fujifilm X100F Digital Teleconverter Fuji X Weekl

Fujifilm X100F in Havana, Cuba (23mm, 1/250th second, F6.4, ISO 200). Size. There is no getting away from it: the X100F is a compact camera. Measuring in at just 4.9 inches wide, 2.9 inches tall, and 2 inches thick, it is small enough to fit into most coat pockets, and at around 15.8 ounces, it is light.. All the Fuji cameras are optimized for people photos and people photos need flash to lighten faces and put catchlights in the eyes under every kind of lighting. I don't see much point in the interchangeable lens Fujis, but others love them. The WCL-X100 II only converts the lens to about a 28mm versus 35mm equivalent; not enough to worry about. 1. Neither screen is touch sensitive but this is remedied by the handy toggle on the rear that lets you change the AF point on the fly.
  2. So, six years on from the X100, does the Fujifilm X100F still have that special something to get photographers excited?
  3. Thanks William. I think the battery is rated at something like 300 shots – though I’ve been getting much more than that. I haven’t had a power out yet 😉
  4. I believe around fifty photographers were handed prototypes back in October 2016.  I’ve worked hard on this project, but it is worth noting that the camera is still a prototype.
  5. My only caveat is that these conversion lenses increase the bulk of the X100F, which isn’t ideal if you’re after a very compact system.

  3. Complementing the new video capabilities is a built-in 3.5mm microphone jack and micro HDMI port (4:2:2 8-bit). The red movie record button has also been replaced by a clearly defined Movie mode on the Drive dial. This means you can use the shutter button to start and stop recording.
  4. A Street & Social Documentary camera that has a superb sensor, and much improved Auto Focus and focus tracking.  It creates beautiful images, including the gorgeous Acros film simulations.  It’s a small, sleek camera and for me, it epitomises everything that the X-DNA stands for.  I know how proud Fujifilm are of the X100 series, and they should remain proud still of the X100F.
  5. I have tried catching my crazy whippet a few times using continuous focus and high-speed burst with a reasonable amount of success.  However, I do still think this camera, as its aimed at street and documentary type photographers, will spend most of its time in single or manual focus modes.
  6. Each works as well and is all metal and the same size and shape, but the hoods don't quite interchange between them. The filter adapters are useful for anyone lacking a spare empty 49mm filter ring, and each of the hoods bayonets the same way.

I’ve said on this website before that I’m not particularly interested in what a camera looks like.  When the X-Pro1 came along, I thought – that’s great – it’s a little black box that takes pictures.  And I loved that.  And I also loved the small footprint of the X100, X100S and X100T. Fujifilm's X100 series has long been a hit with photographers. Its classic design—the first version helped to popularize the retro look for digital cameras—and optical viewfinder appeals to modern photographers who, in the past, would have opted for a compact rangefinder. The latest version, the.. Thanks Kevin, much appreciated. It’s a big thing for me since realistically 80% of what I shoot is when travelling, and the less I have to lug the better. The X100T was great for me for just that reason. I also got into the habit of carrying a small powerbank and topping up when I stop for a coffee. I just wish they would enable the same feature on the X-Pro2.Fujifilm X100F Review: (soaked) 1/140th at f/4, ISO400 (Out of Camera Fuji X100F Sample Image Classic Chrome)

To that end, I did not take it to many weddings during the early firmware cycles preferring to test the camera out on the streets or with personal assignments. The last two images above I think really illustrate the power of using such a discreet camera as an X100F in these kinds of situations.  Whether it’s weddings, parties or you just have a curiosity of photographing everyday events, the X100F is the type of camera that I think will fit the bill for you. The X100F's little ears for the aperture ring are the best aperture adjusters available today, the same as the X100T. These ears are copied from the LEICA SUMMILUX 35mm f/1.4 of 1960.Thanks. It’s only Gas for those that see it that way. A vast majority of people won’t own the XP2 as well and whilst I agree there is an overlap with xp2 and short lens, I reckon 95% + of people interested in this camera won’t have an XP2 and won’t be interested in it. The X100F is smaller and more compact. It serves a different purpose in my mind.

The optical viewfinder is a Reverse Galilean type with 92% coverage of the field area and an electronic bright frame display, while the electronic viewfinder is a 0.48-inch, 2.36 million-dot LCD with 0.67x magnification and a refresh rate of 60fps.The new battery seems to last quite a while. I've made hundreds of shots and never been caught with a dead battery. If I were you, I’d take a look at all the image you shot over the last 18 months and see which focal length you tend to favour. If the result is 35mm (FF), then I’d probably go for the X100F for Street. If the lengths are variable, and you don’t need weather sealing, then the XT20….

Great review! Best X100F I’ve read! I went through almost all the prototype X100F reviews and really love yours! All I need is the fixed 23mm f/2 ASPH lens of the X100F. I have no interest in Fuji's interchangeable lens cameras, all of which use an inferior focal-plane shutter and much larger and clumsier lenses.$1,170 new at Adorama, at Amazon, at B&H and at Crutchfield or about $900 used if you know How to Win at eBay, September 2019.March 2020    Fuji   Sony   LEICA   Zeiss   Nikon   Canon   All Reviews

The X100F is beautiful to use, although the too-easily-clicked rear control dial annoys. We’d hoped the 23mm f/2 lens would be a little crisper wide open and the autofocus could be a bit snappier. But the image quality generally is superb, the hybrid viewfinder is terrific and the shutter speed and aperture dials inspire you to engage more with these settings. If you don't have these, you got ripped off with a gray market version from another country. This is why I never buy anyplace other than from my personally approved sources. I'd get my X100F at Adorama, at Amazon, at B&H or at Crutchfield in silver or in black. You just can't take the chance of buying elsewhere, especially at any retail store, because non-USA versions have no warranty in the USA, and you won't even be able to get firmware or service for it — even if you're willing to pay out-of-pocket for it when you need it!No worries; set it to +5 and it looks great outdoors. Do this at MENU > Wrench > SCREEN SET-UP > LCD BRIGHTNESS > +5.And the best of both worlds?  The Hybrid Viewfinder (HVF).  You have the speed and benefit of the OVF, but a little window in the bottom right that will show an exposure preview of the image you are shooting.

The X100F finds multiple faces anyplace in the frame. It draws green boxes around them and you're good.Sees the same angle-of-view with the X100F's sensor as a 35mm lens sees with a full-frame sensor or on 35mm film.So yes, Ryan, the iPhone is usually all you need for 80% of the pictures we take, but the other 20% require larger cameras for serious fill flash or very long exposures or special lenses or whatever. Because weddings are such important events, I tend not to shoot with the prototype camera much at them for obvious reasons. The image quality is excellent, as are Fujifilm’s Film Simulation modes – including the new Acros black-and-white mode. Fujifilm’s dynamic range expansion modes are effective too, especially for retaining delicate highlight detail.

In your work before you often use classic chrome, pushing contrast and saturation. But these ones look a little bit different. (espacially the pictures at times square etc.)

There’s no NFC communication or low-energy Bluetooth connectivity here either, but the X100F is Wi-Fi enabled, and when used with the compatible app this allows for transfer of images and remote shooting.Because we still can’t set the time in the cameras to the nearest second, those of us that shoot events with multiple cameras have to go through some hoops to sync the clocks of the cameras in post production.  You can see more about this in my Shooting Weddings with a Fuji blog post. Thanks John – and yes, the XT20 of course will give you more versatility. If I had an XT20 for a family camera (I haven’t bought an XT20) then I would likely leave it with one lens permanently attached (probably the 18mm f2) so it’s always ready to shoot.Chief, beautiful pictures you attached here. I own X100 since 2011 and only recently it developed the stains on the sensor – unfortunately the place I am now (Africa) I cannot service it. Probably I will go for the upgrade then from original X100 to X100F – I believe that will be the huge upgrade. However, it is worth knowing that a leaf shutter is essentially different to a standard focal plane shutter because it can synchronise with flash at very high shutter speeds.

I was waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat! Believe it or not I’m migrating for the first time from a Contax T2 to a digital camera, I should be in Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. Only someone wanting to sell you a tripod will tell you to buy an expensive one.I think it’s fair to say that the Fuji X100 most definitely revolutionised the way I approached my business and the way I shoot weddings.  It’s also true to say that the original Fuji Finepix X100 was initially frustrating and languid but given time, and a couple of firmware updates, it became a mainstay of my camera bag as it did for many wedding, street and documentary photographers across the world.

The Fujifilm X100F is the most recent model in  X100 premium fixed-lens camera line. Its selling points are its traditional exposure controls, including a lens aperture ring with f-stop settings and a shutter speed dial on the top of the camera. In true retro 35mm film camera style, you lift and turn this dial to change the ISO setting. As we expect from a leaf shutter, flash sync at all speeds (to 1/1,000 at all apertures, 1/2,000 f/4~f/16 and 1/4,000 f/8~f/16.)

The X100 works more slowly overall than the newer cameras and has less sensor resolution, but honestly even the original X100 has the same great lens, the same great flash system, the same great leaf shutter, and makes the same great images with superb exposure and fill-flash performance in any light.Fujifilm X100F Review: 1/550th at f/2.2, ISO400  (Out of Camera Fuji X100F Sample Image Acros+R)

The combined electronic (EVF) and optical finder (OVF) is amazing. Just pull the front lever toward the side of the camera to swap between them. This is something myself and many others have been requesting and hopefully, will make its way via firmware into other Fuji X-Series cameras.

Similarly, I’d like to see the erase button either removed completely or set as an assignable function button. I think I’ve deleted images in camera maybe 100 times over the last six years.I need another camera like I need another hole in my head, but I am so getting one of these after reading this review and seeing these smashing photos! One of the difficulties many people had when using the X100, 100S and 100T was the lack of any tactile way of adjusting the ISO easily.

If you’re thinking of upgrading from a previous model and want to use your first-generation converters, don’t worry – you’ll simply have to dive into the X100F’s menu to tell the camera what’s mounted on the front. Many were hoping that a tilting monitor would come to the X100F given that most other X-series cameras have one, but in the end Fujifilm opted to keep the fixed 3-inch 1040K-dot LCD monitor of its predecessor. This is shot indoors, not too close to a window. Katie's skin looks perfect, the fill-flash is also perfect, the catchlights in her eyes are perfect, and the Fursians look brilliant as well. This is a grab shot with no twiddling; I can't get looks this good unless I fiddle with settings on my other cameras to get the light to balance this well on the first shot in practical situations.

If you want foreign-made leather, Fuji sells a nice LC-X100F case in brown as shown and in black. (I haven't tried either of the leather cases; I'm unsure if you have to remove them for any connections or not. Fujifilm X100F Review. Does the X100F still have that magic X factor for traditional camera fans? The Fujifilm X100F is the most recent model in X100 premium fixed-lens camera line. Its selling points are its traditional exposure controls, including a lens aperture ring with f-stop settings and a shutter.. All you do to change exposure modes or set shutter speeds or apertures is to move a clicked-stop ring or dial. The aperture ring has third-stop clicks, and has slightly deeper detents at the full stops so we can set them by feel. LEICA still can't do this; their half-stops are all the same as the full stops. That obviously presents a certain challenge, but it’s the way I like to see images ~ as real moments, captured.
